There are several ways to explore opportunities at Saint Mary's Catholic High School:

For eighth grade students, we sponsor two Eighth Grade Days in October. Catholic schools are invited to these events and arrangements are made at the school level. For other eighth graders, please call 602-251-2501 to make a reservation so that we can plan accordingly. We ask that all students be accompanied by an adult. The day is designed for students and focuses on student interests. Lunch will be served and the day ends with a pep assembly.

For parents of prospective students at every level, we sponsor a formal Open House each November. The Open House includes an opening presentation and a tour of the campus, with new presentations throughout the afternoon. Faculty, coaches, and parents of current students will be available. Although the day is designed for parents, students are welcome to attend.

The application process for freshmen begins with the High School Placement Test (Entrance Exam).
Scheduled test dates are offered in January each year (no pre-registration is required).
All test takers should arrive at our Main Office by 7:45 on the morning of the test day. The test will take approximately four hours. A testing fee of $35 will be charged. The testing fee is due on the day the test is taken.

This test is given by all diocesan high schools. Saint Mary's will accept test scores for a student if the test was taken at another high school.

Parents interested in exploring Saint Mary’s Catholic High School as the school for their son or daughter, are encouraged to contact Rob Rogers, Assistant Principal, at (602) 251-2508 for more information or to begin the admissions process. If you are transferred to voice mail, clearly leave your name, phone number, student grade, and current school attending; and your call will be returned.

Financial Aid

Financial assistance is available and Saint Mary’s welcomes students of all faiths. Students coming to Saint Mary's from a public or charter school, and who demonstrate financial need, may qualify for funding from a separate Corporate Tax Credit fund established with the Catholic Tuition Organization of the Diocese of Phoenix.

Saint Mary's continues to pursue every avenue for financial aid resources. For those interested in financial aid, we remind you that the CTODP financial aid application for second round must be filed on or before July 31, 2009. The timely filing of this application is essential to receiving aid from any source. The form requires the attachment of your 2008 federal income tax return, so early preparation of your tax returns is essential and should begin ASAP.

Printed financial aid applications are available in the Saint Mary's High School Business Office

Some Comments On The Entrance Exam

All students seeking admission to Saint Mary's High School must take the High School Placement Test (Entrance Exam). This test is given by all diocesan high schools. A test fee of $35 is charged. No pre-registration is required. The four hour test will be given on its scheduled date with a 7:45 start time. Saint Mary's will accept test scores for a student if the test was taken at another high school. On the day of the test, you will have the option to send your test score to three different schools.

Admissions Process after the Entrance Exam

Test takers are sent home with materials to be completed by appropriate school personnel at the student's current elementary/junior high school. These forms must be returned to Saint Mary's in a timely fashion.

The Saint Mary's Admissions Committee meets shortly after the deadline. The Committee uses the High School Placement Test scores, information on forms completed by elementary/junior high school personnel, teacher/administrator recommendations, and prior standardized scores. Some students may be invited for an interview. Admission decisions are mailed to applicants during the first week of March, together with information on dates and procedures for Freshman Registration Day. Registration materials are not mailed out.
