Saint Mary's Fund

What is the Saint Mary’s Fund?

There comes a time in the lifecycle of most institutions when they face a choice between the excellent and the extraordinary.  For Saint Mary’s Catholic High School, that time is now.  The Saint Mary’s Fund is the backbone of our comprehensive development program and is necessary to sustain and enrich the life of Saint Mary’s on an ongoing basis.

Giving to the Saint Mary’s Fund supports the five pillars of a Saint Mary’s education – faith, academics, athletics, fine arts and community.  For more than 90 years Saint Mary’s has promoted excellence in education by providing a strong course curriculum while preparing students to be life-long learners and socially responsible citizens.  Our goal is to produce graduates who make an impact in their communities, and around the world.

Active participation by our alumni and parents is the mark of institutional excellence and empowers Saint Mary’s to compete on a regional and national level.  Gifts made to the Saint Mary’s Fund support and enrich daily life at Saint Mary’s - academic programs, resources for athletic programs, creativity through the fine arts, support of quality teachers – the bedrock of Saint Mary’s academic success, financial aid, and technological advances.

A high school diploma can be a ticket to moving into higher education.  Colleges and universities require students to have a diploma in order to enroll.  Today, college may be more important than ever before.  Not only is it beneficial for students who want successful careers later in life, but it also provides an experience that students will remember forever.

Roughly 60% of jobs require some type of training or education beyond high school and most institutions of higher education want applicants to be high school graduates. According to the Education Commission of the States, high school graduates earn higher salaries, so are less likely to depend on public assistance, to have health problems, or to engage in criminal activity. A higher level of education typically means better employment prospects and increased personal satisfaction. A high school diploma can be the gateway to postsecondary education, better employment and a successful college career.

When you think back to high school, do you think about the experience or the financial hardship to attain a quality education?  Saint Mary’s POSSE students are exceptional individuals who otherwise might have not had the opportunity to have a private, college preparatory education.

The POSSE (Partnership of Students, Sponsors and Educators) program teams a Knight or Lady Knight with a sponsor who agrees to pay a portion of the student’s tuition through as many as three years of Saint Mary’s High School as well as the opportunity to forge a mentoring relationship with the student.  The student/sponsor relationship is intended to motivate students to succeed academically while gaining a new perspective on their potential in life.  The sponsor is given an opportunity to provide encouragement and inspiration to help the student successfully graduate and realize their dreams beyond graduation.

POSSE students are expected to strive to grow spiritually, academically, socially, and personally while participating in the program as well as be a student in good standing and involved in school-sponsored activities.  Students are chosen for the program based on the following criteria:

  • Desire for a structured, values-based education
  • Motivation to take advantage of a superior high school education
  • Their inability to meet the financial cost of attending a private high school

Established is 1995, Saint Mary’s POSSE program was modeled after a similar program in New York.  The program’s mission is to help support a student with financial need attend Saint Mary’s Catholic High School through the generosity and personal support of a mentor.  The POSSE program has been instrumental in preserving the dignity of Saint Mary’s and providing a Saint Mary’s education that is rich in tradition, academics, athletics and Catholic Christian service to students with a demonstrated financial need.

Saint Mary’s POSSE seeks to enable our youth to compete more successfully for employment, become better qualified for further education, achieve greater personal fulfillment and contribute more productively to society.  For more information on how you can sponsor a Saint Mary’s Catholic High School student through the POSSE program, please call (602) 256-4909.

Planned Giving

You don't have to be a teacher to provide an education.
Leave a legacy of learning today.

For more than 90 years, Saint Mary’s Catholic High School has helped educate countless young men and women.  Our steady growth has been built on the vision of an institution firmly grounded in the traditional values of academic excellence, innovation and connection to community.

Including Saint Mary’s in your estate plan allows you to direct your legacy and enjoy the benefits of a gift to charity.  Your charitable gift to Saint Mary’s is an important statement about how you want to be remembered, it helps the School continue as a model of educational excellence, and influences others to remember Saint Mary’s, as well.

A will is a statement about what matters most in your life.  By making a will you can ensure that your intentions are clearly expressed and will be followed by those administering your estate.  You can include something as simple at the following to ensure that your intentions are known to support Saint Mary’s:

I give ($) (%) of my estate to Saint Mary's Scholarship & Benefit Fund, 2525 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004 to provide for the ongoing activities of Saint Mary's High School as determined by the Board of Directors (or for the purpose of ________).  Tax ID #74-2547562

You don't have to be wealthy to make a significant gift.  After providing for family, friends, and others, we would like our supporters to continue their support of Saint Mary’s.

Planned gifts from our supporters will play a significant role in the funding of our educational mission and the betterment of both our faculty and facilities.  Your gift can be unrestricted and applied to general purposes or the area of greatest need, or it can be restricted to campus improvement, scholarship, faculty development, or technology.

Please let us know if you include Saint Mary’s in your estate plan so that we may thank you now and honor you as a member of The Emerald Society

We are here to help.  Your generosity has a profound impact on the lives of young people who want to be a part of the Saint Mary’s family.  We invite you to unlock the doors of their future through a Saint Mary’s education.  Please do not hesitate to contact Karen Mankoski at (602) 256-4909 or at kmankoski@smknights.org to discuss the ways you can ensure a Saint Mary’s education for future generations of young people.
