Saint Mary's Catholic High School is dependent on two sources of revenue: Tuition and Fundraising. Although Saint Mary's is a Diocesan High School, as part of the Diocese of Phoenix, the school is required to have a balanced budget each year. The Development Office is responsible for fundraising efforts at Saint Mary's, including the annual Saint Mary's Open Golf Tournament and other events such as the Hall of Fame Dinner and Auction. In addition, the Development Office works with a generous network of donors who give to the school through several different vehicles, such as the "Sponsor a Student" program, annual fund, endowment fund, planned giving and matching gifts. Some gifts are given directly to the school, while other gifts are given to the Scholarship and Benefit Fund, a separate 501 c(3) whose mission is: “to provide resources to Saint Mary's Catholic High School, students, faculty and staff to ensure access to excellent academic, social, and cultural opportunities for all students.” Donors can work with their tax advisors on ways their donations to Saint Mary's may be deducted as a charitable contribution.Perhaps the best way you can support Saint Mary's is to take advantage of Arizona's school tax credit law, which allows individuals, married couples and certain corporations to redirect a portion of their tax liability to qualified school tuition organizations. Its very simple. Single tax filers can contribute $500 and married couples can contribute $1000 to a school tuition organization, and receive a dollar for dollar tax credit. For the 2010-2011 school year, students were awarded over $2.4 million in financial aid, with 60% receiving $3,000 or more and 40% receiving $5,000 or more. The majority of these funds are generated through the Arizona school tax credit.
