Tax CreditThe Arizona Private School Tuition Tax Credit law has been in effect since 1997, and has opened the door to private education for countless families that otherwise would not have the choice to send their children to a private school. Individuals send their contributions directly to the school tuition organization, and that organization must then provide scholarships for students who apply. For individuals: An individual may claim a credit for making a donation to a School Tuition Organization for scholarships to private schools. The maximum credit amount that may be taken for tax year 2010 and tax year 2011 is $500 for single, unmarried head of household and married filing separate filers and $1,000 for married filing joint filers. The private school tuition tax credit is claimed by the individual taxpayer on their tax return. Saint Mary's recommends that individuals donate online or send their tax credit contributions to Catholic Education Arizona (formerly CTODP):CTODP, Bank Processing CenterP.O. For "C" corporations:The Arizona Corporate Tuition Tax Credit (CTC) Scholarship Program is an educational plan designed to help low-income families in Arizona obtain the best education for their children.Under this program, certain corporations (C-corp) that owe Arizona corporate income tax, or insurance premium tax, redirect a portion or their entire tax obligation to student tuition organizations that award K-12 scholarships to students qualifying for the federal government's free or reduced lunch program. The corporation, in turn, will receive a 100 percent tax credit for every dollar it donates. Participating corporations redirect funds they must already pay to the state, enabling them to help low-income children achieve greater educational excellence at NO COST to the corporation. As a result, the program is paving the way for an educated workforce that will greatly contribute to the betterment of our communities.Participating companies do not have to be domiciled in Arizona; the only requirement is that they have tax liability with the state. Dollars can fund scholarships for children in a specific region(s), schools or across the state.Participation is simple and easy.
